The Print Media: It is beyond one’s Imagination (Part - 2)


          The spectrum of publications is voluminous, the languages are numerous but the print media is heavily there in every language. To know the volume, we shall have to speak about each language to measure this volume across the states in country.  

Languages & Publications

The Assamese language have 5,21,779 circulation from 15 publication in Assam alone. The Bengali 36,14,363 from 36 with 32,42,349 in West Bengal from 27 publications, 1, 92,153 from 01 in Assam, 1,76,495  from 05 in Tripura and 3366 from 02 in Delhi. There are bi-lingual publications with 3,81,967 from 12 with 32,840 from 01 in Bihar, 1,71,850 from 03 in Delhi, 18,833 from 01 Jaharkhand, 1,46,610 from 06 in Uttar Pradesh and 11,834 from 01 in Uttrakhand.  

The English language has 1,39,20,149 from 257 publications all over the country with 15,03,703 from 10 in Andhra Pradesh, 94,916 from 02 in Assam, 3,78,666 from 04  in Chandigarh, 20,404 from 01 in Chhatisgarh, 10,56,131 from 74 in Delhi, 55,505 from 02 in Goa, 40,396 from 02 in Gujarat, 8,70,875 from 06 in Jammu and Kashmir, 5,57,359 from 08 in Karnataka, 2,67,470 from 03 in Kerala, 25,672 from 02 in Madhya Pradesh, 36,94,172 from 96 in Maharashtra, 12,835 from 01 in Manipur, 1,05,438 from 4 in Meghalaya, 65,468 from 01 in Mizoram, 55,138 from 01 in Nagaland, 39,97,251 from 19 in Tamil Nadu, 2,50,023 from 06 in Uttar Pradesh, 8,68,727 from 11 in West Bengal besides it 01 each publications from Bihar, Orissa and Uttarakhand with no circulation. One understands from the aforesaid date that the print media in English language is available from 19 places in the country.  

 Gujarati language has 3, 54,750 circulation from 45 all over the country with 44,292 from 03 in Delhi, 3,10,548 from 30 from Gujarat alone. The Hindi language has publications and circulation all over India with 2,16,68,718 from 336 publications with 2,33,831 from 02 in Andhra Pradesh,  30,326 from 02 in Assam, 6,37,782 from 05 in Bihar, 1,08,265 from 03 in Chandigarh, 6,42,581 from 11 in Chhatisgarh, 32,22,996 from 65 in Delhi,1,75,750 from 03 in Gujarat, 3,37,472 from 06 in Haryana, 1,36,391 from 05 in Himachal Pradesh, 90,282 from 03 in Jammu and Kashmir, 7,55,226 from 11 in Jaharkhand, 26,40,158 from 39 in Madhya Pradesh, 18,52,180 from 24 in Maharashtra, 9,72,516 from 09 in Punjab, 39,90,787 from 44 in Rajasthan, 50,42,629 from 82 in Uttar Pradesh, 5,13,465 from 14 in Uttarakhand and 2,86,081  from 08 in West Bengal. Therefore, the Hindi publications with circulation are from 18 places across the country.

The Kananda language has 23,63,071 from 30 publications all over the country with 60,588 from 03 in Delhi, 22,79,461 from 25 in Karnataka, 23,022 from 02 in Maharashtra.  Khasi has 27,876 from 01 in Meghalaya alone. Malayalum has 71,57,385 from 42 publications with 4,692 from 03 in Delhi and 71,52,693 from 39 in Kerala alone. The Manipuri language has 70, 285 from 02 in Manipur.

The Marathi language has 59,03,893 from 66 publications all over the country with 88,611 from 02 in Delhi, 22,437 from 02 in Goa, 1,33,091 from 01 in Karnataka and 56,59,754 from 61 in Maharashtra. Nepali has 17,029 from 01 in West Bengal alone. The Oriya language has 18,41,468 from 11 in Orissa alone. Punjabi has 13,81,289 from 18 with 67,288 from 03 in Chandigarh, 90,474 from 02 in Delhi, 12,08,523 from 10 in Punjab and 15,004 from 01 in Uttar Pradesh.
 
 Further, Rajasthani language has 59,764 from 01 publication in Rajasthan alone. Tamil has 54,77,053 from 72 publications all over the country with 9,159 from 03 in Delhi, 53,554 from 01 in Karnataka, 19,657 from 02 in Maharashtra, 89,324 from 04 in Orissa , 53,05,359 from 62 in Tamil Nadu. The Telugu language has circulation of 59,03,143  from 46 publications all over with 58, 95,847 from 42 in Andhra Pradesh alone, Delhi  has 7,236 from 03.

The Urdu language has 8,85,143 from 31 publications spread over some states   with 1,99,425 from 04 in Andhra Pradesh, 2,47,076 from 10 in Delhi, 54,116 from 03 in Jammu and Kashmir, 32,229 from 02 in Madya Pradesh, 12, 272 from 01 in Punjab and 2,06,198 from 04 in Uttar Pradesh and finally 1, 33, 702 from 03 in West Bengal which reveals that the Urdu language has circulation in 07 places of the country. 


The subject has many other areas chiefly like advertisements, employment, editorial and readership which left untouched for future as separate topics. This exercise makes everyone to believe that the print media has a message for all that despite all pulls, pressures and competition from the electronic media even today the acceptability and representation in each language is there across the country. We know, the choice is vast, the appetite is much larger thus it is going to stay for years to come since the urge to know is growing endlessly.
